MCC Dayton Parish to hold special weekly Pride events

by Rev. Raeanna Biddle

Dayton-Events are being finalized for Pride Month activities at the Metropolitan Community Church Dayton Parish. In addition to the regular services of the church, weekly Pride activities have been planned.

On Sunday, June 20, the church will hold Homecoming Services at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm. Parishioners are encouraged to invite people who have not recently attended worship. The services will be marked with special music and festive decorations.

Maturity Matters will gather at the Air Force Museum on Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 pm to tour the Holocaust display. The group will meet on the second floor of the museum at 2:45 pm. The event is open to the entire community, at no charge. Persons joining the Maturity Matters group are asked to wear a pink triangle to show that gay men and lesbians are among the forgotten victims of the Holocaust.

MCC will join other lesbigaytrans groups in the Dayton Pride celebration on Sunday, June 20. The church will provide information about their ministry and various groups that are a part of the church. MCC is cosponsor of the Stonewall riot 30th anniversary celebrations on Wednesday, June 23.

Other events planned are an Over the Rainbow Dance, a panel discussion of gay, lesbian Christians, a workshop featuring social and spiritual growth issues, a seminar on the biblical issues of homosexuality, and a Sunday afternoon sing-in for Christian gay men, lesbians, bisexual

and transgender people. People of all Christian faiths are invited to attend. More information on these events may be obtained by calling the church office at 937228-4031.

Additionally, regular worship services will include the weekly worship celebration each Sunday at 10:30 am, and the Prayer Service of Reflection and Reconciliation at 6:00 pm on June 21. Additionally, there are two midweek Bible studies. The Living Scripture Circle meets each Wednesday at 7:15 pm, and the Reading the Bible for Understanding group meets weekly in the second floor lounge on Thursday at 7:00 pm.

MCC Dayton Parish, a member congregation of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches established in 1979, offers a place where gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transgendered, and supportive people may affirm and deepen their faith in Jesus Christ. The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches provides 300 congregations in 15 countries for its 42,000 members and for more than 225,000 people who attend MCC services and programs each year.

The Dayton church is located in the St. Anne's Historic District at 1630 E. Fifth St., less than three miles from the intersection of Interstate 75 and US route 35, on RTA bus route 2. Entrance is from the parking lot. All services are accessible to the physically challenged.

Rev. Raeanna Biddle is the senior pastor of Metropolitan Community Church Dayton Parish.
